Wednesday, July 22. What it feels like to door knock

Today, during our morning planning we made a list of 8 people to visit; their phone numbers, addresses and age. The first 2 were not home. The third was a 73 year old man listed as less active. We told him who we were. He said not a word and shut the door in our face. Wow rejection is hard. Later in the day we looked at our area book to see what was said and there in big letters said "Rude don't visit." We know we have lots to learn.
But the day was not lost because our 4th contact was Mary a 53 yr old woman who was thrilled to visit with

us and welcomed us in. We spent a hour. She shared her story with us and said she had been thinking about going back to  church. She had an addiction to prescription drugs due to muscle pain over a long time. In Dec she was arrested and put in jail in Pennsylvania where she stayed for over 4 months. Received great help came to know God again and straightened her life out. Now she works out of her home and has her disabled son with her who works and contributes. She is totally clean and has a car. She wants missionaries to come and also go back to church where she went before some 10 yrs ago.
What a great day. Then we stopped by a beautiful tree in some shade and ate lunch Bob had made. We did a lot more work to find the church she will attend contacted our district leaders and etc. Later that day we meet with our mission pres. And also were able meet 3 other senior couples here. After that meeting we hurried to our branch which is about 30 minutes away. Met with our branch pres. To discuss what he wants us to help the branch with. Oh how I wish I had my binder from home on self reliance and living the principles of welfare. Picture is the Annapolis navel station. Football coach is on meet the Mormons. The picture doesn't do it justice. So beautiful from the bridge.
