The story of Mimi

Mimi had a desperate look on her face. She was brought to this area by a friend from NA because she had a fight with her mother. After she received 4 months of  treatment for her addiction she had no place to stay. Divorced, lost her home, car--- pretty much everything. The mother said if she stayed she could not smoke. She went outside and smoked so her mother  said get out.  Mimi said some very nasty things to her mom so she would not go back. She called many people for help  no one cared. This told me that she had burnt many bridges along the way. She had lots of excuses and said many times no one understands. As we tried desperately to find her a place to stay it was obvious that even if we did she would still be in the same sad shape tomorrow. We needed to get her stuff. No suitcase just bags. That's all she had in life. Where was a lifetime of things? She had to be in her mid 50's. But laying out on the curb was her belongings. How a so called friend could do this---- take her money and then leave her stranded.
So as we drove her home to Waldorf Maryland we talked. We talked about forgiveness and repentance. We talked about mistakes and Christ love for us. We talked about changes and letting our actions speak louder than just our words. What makes a true friend and a lot about prayer.  We told her about our mission as representives of Jesus Christ. Why we came and how she could know him better. She told us many times that this was a spiritual experience for her. I asked her to promise me if ever a person with a badge ( showed her mine real close). Knocked at her door that I want her to listen to what they would teach her. She immediately said. "Oh I will I promise"
As we left her I was so sadden to see such anger from her daughter instead of gratitude that she was safe and not on the street. Only Mimi said thank you. Since that time I've thought about her and prayed for her. Wondered if she's ok. From this I am more sure than ever that the gospel lifts us higher. Without it we would be lost like Mimi. In my life I've taken the blessings of this restored gospel for granted. It's always been around but to truly see someone with no knowledge and how lost they are just agains tells me I need remember always how blessed I am for this restored gospel and for a savior--Jesus Christ we loves us all. Even Mimi because he placed us in her path.
