This was a pretty good week.  On Monday we went to Hyattsville, MD, for the funeral of Sister Tyree's mother, who was 71.  It was a Baptist funeral in the Stake Center in Hyattsville.  President Dotimas from our Branch presided.  There was lots of singing, praising the Lord, and speaking at her "graduation to glory."

On Tuesday Sister Christiansen asked if we could help her get things ready for the new missionaries who would be coming in from Salt Lake City around 5:00 p.m.  We arrived at her home at 11:00 a.m. and helped for a couple of hours making breakfast burritos for Wednesday morning.  Then we went shopping for items she still needed to make serving 24 missionaries easier.  Of course Irene loved that part of it.  When we got back to the mission home from shopping, President and Sister Christiansen had already left for the airport to pick up the missionaries.  We prepared individual salads for each place setting, baked homemade rolls she had started, mashed the potatoes, and waited for everyone to arrive for dinner.  Anna, President and Sister Christiansen's daughter stayed with us to help, make the lemon-aide and finish her homework.

At about 5:30 they all showed up, visited for a while, I took pictures of all the missionaries with President and Sister Christiansen, then we all sat down to eat.  Sister Christiansen prepared the roasts and carrots ahead of time.  It was a wonderful meal and fun to see the new missionaries and to hear their testimonies after dinner.  For desert, the best part of the meal, we had brownies and ice cream.

On Wednesday, transfer day, we arrived at the Stake Center at 7:45 a.m. with Elders Carlson and Stevens.  Elder Stevens was being transferred to Bynum Run, MD; Elder Burrup, our District Leader, was also being transferred to Ellicott City, MD, as one of the Assistants to the President; and Sister Allen and Tripple were also transferred from our District to Bel Aire, MD.  Irene and I prepared a little gift (as shown in the picture below) for each of those being transferred from our District.  We drew faces on a Twinkie and put clothes on each one of them; dresses for the Sisters and pants for the Elders and gave them each a bag of life savers with a note that said:  "You have been a LIFESAVER to us.  Now go and be a LIFE-SAVIOR to others.

Thursday we developed a lesson plan for the third principle of self-reliance: Obedience, and visited some families.  While we had been out walking a few days earlier, Irene found some furniture in a driveway and just had to stop and look at it.  We went back later that morning and just happened to catch the owner home.  The owner said she also had a dining room table with six chairs.  Of course Irene's face lit up like a Christmas Tree and was beaming from ear to ear with a smile.  She had plans for that stuff.  So, she made arrangements to have one of the members move it to a couple of needy families in the Branch.  We helped move it with the missionaries and Brother Klecz.  Irene also got her flew shot and pneumonia shot.  I decided I didn't need the flew shot this year.
